The tried and true color combination of Red, White and Blue will never go out of style and what a shade of blue that is! Tried using the Benjamin Moore Color Capture App to see what it is - let's just say we are having user error. The fabric on the window treatment is fanciful and chic, reminds me of a classic pattern like a toile but better. Links rug - think it was a Pottery Barn or William Sonoma pattern. I wish I had the resource list for this room.

Crazy Cool Coffee Tables

All of these are amazing rooms in their own right but while looking through all the images saved up I noticed that they had something in common - totally unique coffee tables. I actually prefer something a little higher than the standard 16-20 inches. Partly because my couches are taller, I don't like to lean and reach too much and I do a lot of projects on the coffee table so it serves as a work surface. I would gladly sacrifice all that for one of these. For those super traditionalists (namely males) out there who believe that all coffee tables are to be made out of wood I present the following argument.

Chinese Chippendale Chairs

I got a set of 4 Chinese Chippendale chairs for $100 at a local consignment shop about 3 years ago and it was one of those deals that was so unbelievable as it was happening, I still can't believe my score! As I painted them red I wondered if I would ever tire of them. Not so! They are still the crown jewel in my bargain hunting adventures and in my design scheme. When I see other images of them it reminds me that I still need to find a few more so that I have a complete set around the table, I think I will go armless this time. Easier said then done.

Nursery of the Week: Girlish Glamour by Hudson Baby Design

This is a room all about texture from the ruffle curtains, the patchwork hide rug, the mirrored dresser, the embossed wallpaper on the ceiling, metallic linen on the drape box and silk bedding. We completed this room back in October for a very lucky little lady. Her parents wanted something neutral and sophisticated that worked with the rest of their European style decor.

We were able to use the existing paint color and add lots of textural and decorative elements. The sloped ceiling called for something unique and that ended up being this great paintable wallpaper with an embossed damask pattern that got a coat of goldish bronze paint. Two large mirrors were placed behind the crib and then an upholstered box was affixed to the ceiling with ruffle drapes hanging down mimicking the drapes across the way on the windows.

Even the artwork is a bit different as it is a photograph printed on canvas and then coated with epoxy giving it a sleek finish. Black was a stabilizing color pulled throughout the room from the curtain rods to the door handles and the bookcase hardware, etc. My favorite touch, those brass urchins above the crib!

Stumbled across these great entertaining aids over Christmas while perusing the shops with the ladies. I didn't buy any but have been thinking about them ever since. These are my favorite, the Paper Pearls Kids Place mats that the kids can color in and then remove the pieces to actually wear. Instead of using them as place mats (their intended use) it would be a great activity for a birthday party. The pad comes in sheets of 25 and are $27 here. There were also some cute boy themed place mats that had eye patches and goggles but they seem to be sold out online.

This nursery was originally featured on Elements of Style and I can't get over it. A blog reader sent the photos in an explained how she put the room together on her own. It's one of my all time favorites! The wall color is perfection, totally envious over that artwork above the crib and the symmetry provided by the two bookcases pleases me to no end. Not to mention the showstopping Madeline Weinrib rug and the hint of high end fabric. I wonder how the couch works instead of a rocker/glider but it is probably multi- functional.

Remember Petite Sophisticate? Random. Anyway, on to the pink. This weekend I got to check out a stunning home designed in a simple color palette of white, grey and black with an accent color of pinky-purple placed sparingly throughout the rooms. It was amazeballs. The house had "flow" like I have never experienced due in a large part to the disciplined/restrained color, the complimentary furniture and accents and because of its simplicity. It was both traditional with classical pieces and antiques and modern with contemporary artwork and hip fabrics. Plus that pop of pink. I was totally caught off guard and took no photos - not one. But... this home in France totally reminds me of it.

Hudson Baby Design: Sailing Away in Lone Tree, CO

A before shot of the room

One of our latest nursery projects is finished! We just completed a very soft and soothing nursery for a baby boy in Lone Tree, CO. The room was inspired by some folk art paintings the couple owned (see below) that became our jumping off point for a casual nautical theme. First thing we did was paint - that completely transformed the room and did wonders to lighten up the space. A light blue color went on the ceiling and the walls received a creamy white, this helped to accentuate the moldings and height of the ceiling. This was one of the larger rooms we have worked in which allowed us to go up a size for the dresser/changing table area thus providing coveted counter space. Next to that is a comfy glider and convienant foot stool with hidden storage.

The two folk art paintings on the right provided the inspiration for the room

A pair of nautical sconces went in on either side of the crib allowing for adjustable lighting options for the new parents. The painting above the crib was a last minute find that ended up being the perfect fit!

A soft, flat weave cotton rug in cream and blue was layered on the carpet.

The window treatments are where we brought in some color with a fun bright yellow chevron pattern used on the roman shades and at the base of the drapes for the large window.

This fantastic bookshelf is actually a converted shipping container! It's a totally unique piece that really pops against the creamy walls and was a spot where personal items could be incorporated into the room. We are so pleased with how this turned out and really enjoyed working with the parents to be, we can't wait to meet baby boy!

Pink is everywhere it being October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For our own little tribute: a series of one of my all time favorite accents - the pink front door! Oh, to have the balls to execute this in real life.

Funny story, I actually sourced this house during my casting days at HGTV (way back when) and we shot it for our show. Hollywood Regency was at its peak in the design world and this home epitomized that style (of course it was in Palm Springs). The couple that owned it were incredibly kind and gracious but I remember the crew coming back and being totally awestruck, we had never shot anything like this before. A couple months after our shoot it showed up in a Metropolitan Home magazine (RIP) and at that time our show hadn't even edited or placed the piece yet. That's what they call being scooped!

Betsy Burnham Design

I have painted some furniture in my day. You will notice there haven't been too many other "project" posts like this lately, that is because it takes a lot of time and loads of patience. So the fact that somebody tackled these two beauties is kind of mind blowing. It also makes me think I should get back in the game. Sheridan French was inspired by the blue and red Union Jack dresser in Betsy Burnham's daughter's room. So much so, that she wanted one of her own so she took an existing piece in her house and HAND PAINTED the pink and orange version you see above.

This one is cool too (not painted, but detailed) I would pair it in a totally unexpected way with a bright wall color or wall paper, perhaps the way Miles Redd did - see below.

Not for everyone, I know, but I think it is insanely good.

The weather is finally starting to turn around these parts after being in the 80's even the HIGH 80's for the past month. Most were complaining that it didn't feel like fall. Well, you got your wish people it's time to break out that extra blanket. I steered clear of wool blankets forever but they hold the most heat and so my interest is peaked. Enter Pendleton.

The contemporary take on traditional designs are awesome. Updated color options and the graphic designs make a spectacular focal point.

The company has been around since 1909 when the Bishop family opened a mill in the Oregon frontier town of Pendleton. Their specialty - weaving Jacquard design Indian blankets. The company tradition of creating individual blanket designs for American Indian tribes continues today.

In 1932 the Pendleton company provided 4,000 blankets for participants at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Lucille Ball famously sported a Pendleton jacket in an episode of "I Love Lucy" and 1955 - Pendleton was a founding tenant in Disneyland's Frontierland.

As much as the brightly colored Native American designs appeal to me I am sucker for the National Parks line.

The Glacier Blanket has been really popular in interior decorating lately because of the simplicity of the design.

Virtual Therapy - Emotional Bag Check

Honestly, last week was not so good. To overcome the general yuckiness I did what any normal human being living in the year 2011 does; I took my problems online to perfect strangers. Emotional Bag Check was my savior. It was like a therapy session with out the patient sign in and co-pay. I fell into the "Check Your Baggage" genre so I typed up my problems and it was virtually carrier pigeoned out into the universe for a stranger to read. Said stranger then assess your situation and come up with song to send you. My baggage must have been worse than I thought (!), because I got several responses. See my fav below. Full Disclosure: Jay Z is on my 25 most played list on my iTunes. Oh, and I am doing much better now :)

I remember being about 13 or 14 and sitting in my all pink bedroom when one of my older brother's friends came in and remarked that my room was for a little girl. I was devastated. I loved the pink and white pinstripe balloon curtains, ballet pink walls and raspberry colored carpet. It was time for a new look though and so for my birthday I asked to have my room re-done. This time we did it in periwinkle, SO much less girly. What I would have given for one of these rooms.

Barn Tour

Over the weekend we went on a "Barn Tour" in the old nabe. It was OUTSTANDING! Oddly, none of these barns had that eau de manure wafting through that we were treated to as youngsters when we were out there mucking stalls for 4H * need to find out their secret. We kept marveling that the lucky owners could have these spreads and then be only a 25 minute ride from downtown Denver.

Barn #1 was the Crown Jewel of the tour, all the wood was reclaimed from old barns in Montana and it was constructed in the North West Style.

Such cool light fixtures that had push button switches (which I forgot to photograph)

The grounds were immaculate and with all the Aspen, Evergreen trees and wild flowers it felt very Colorado.
